Budget Fly Fishing Gift Ideas

*Please note some of these products may no longer be available to purchase on our website*
Finding good fly fishing gift ideas is not always easy, and finding ones that fit within the average person’s gift giving budget always makes the task even harder. Fortunately, I have a few good ideas that should help ease the pain this holiday season and show the fly fishers on your list more than just a nice gesture. For the sake of consistency, we will define “budget” gift ideas as anything at or under 50 dollars. This leaves us with plenty of high quality, functional fly fishing tools and accessories that will see multiple seasons of use without emptying your bank account.

Abel Nippers

First up are the Abel Nippers. These nippers could be the best set of fly fishing line cutters ever created. The cutting blades are sharp enough to handle almost any line material out there. They cut through 100lb braid just as easily as 7X fluorocarbon tippet, and the fact that they are replaceable makes the Abel Nippers virtually immortal. Stick with Abel’s basic single color finishes to keep the price right at $50.

Simms Headwaters Taco Bag

The Headwaters Taco Bag from Simms is a great gift for any fly fisherman. It works by opening it up and laying it down on the ground. Then you simply step onto it, strip off your waders and boots, and zip the bag up with your wet, muddy gear sealed inside. By giving them a Taco Bag, you are giving them legendary Simms quality and durability for under 40 dollars.

Rep Your Water Gear

No matter where they live or fish, Rep Your Water probably makes gear for each of the anglers on your holiday gift list. Whether you pick out a hat, t-shirt, or a few stickers, the unique, state and species-specific designs will let them show some hometown pride both on and off the water. Rep Your Water gear is a great way to get them something different that shows that you put in some thought.

ExOfficio Give-N-Go Underwear

I would not include ExOfficio underwear on this list unless they were, hands down, the best underwear on the planet. They feature an Aegis Microbe Shield that repels odor and bacteria for extended trips into the backcountry, quick drying fabric, and unmatched comfort. While a 26 dollar pair of underwear might not be the best gift idea for one of your fly fishing buddies, it is a great idea if you are a mom, wife, or girlfriend.

Tacky Fly Box

I got my first Tacky Fly Box this summer and after only one day of using it, it became my favorite fly box. The silicone rubber insert holds every size of fly snugly in place and will not pack out or loosen over time. The magnetic closures keep it shut and the clear lid lets you choose your weapon before exposing your bugs to the elements. Chances are, the fly fishermen or women you are shopping for don’t have one yet, and by giving them a Tacky Fly Box, you are introducing them to a piece of gear that will make their days on the water easier. Pick one up here for $24.95.

I hope this list helps you choose a few gift ideas for you fly fishing friends and family, and keeps you within your budget this holiday season. For more ideas shop online here or stop by the fly shop in Edwards, Colorado.
