Warm water on the upper Colorado River

I did a Full Day Float this weekend from Pumphouse to Radium and noticed unseasonably warm water, especially in the afternoon. According to the USGS Water Information System website water in Kremmling approached 72 degrees Fahrenheit. It's easy to forget about the threat of warm water this early in the season, but because of limited water release from Lake Granby and Green Mountain Resivoir, it's something anglers have to keep in mind. Until flows on the upper Colorado increase its important to remember the guidelines for protecting our fish. Colorado Parks and Wildlife recommends avoiding fishing during the warmest part of the day, using barbless hooks, and releasing fish in deep, flowing water when possible. These are important steps to take to protect our fishery, even during what seems like a normal high water spring.
